“Nothing fishy, nothing odd, nothing difficult”
– Shihan Hiroshi Doi (English translation)
This Japanese Shihan (master instructor) was referring to the original spiritual practice Mikao Usui (1865-1926) founded in 1922. This spiritual practice, Usui Reiki Ryoho, is a simple yet profound method that uses a piece of the source of all energy – universal energy. That piece, called Usui Reiki, is the vibrations of unconditional love and harmony.
This spiritual practice is neither a belief system nor a religion. It is a method of allowing universal love and harmony to flow to the core of all cells/atoms in need in mind, body, and spirit in all life forms. Rather than masking symptoms Usui Reiki flows to the core of what is causing the symptoms, and helps those learning to understand the greatest purpose in life.
Usui Reiki brings balance and surrounds with harmony; what is in-balance and surrounded with harmony heals in the way best at that junction in time. No one can receive too much Usui Reiki or have it flow to the wrong place as no human can direct universal energy. As Usui Sensei (honorable teacher) said, there is an inner healer within each life form, which Usui Reiki supports and enhances to form a restorative rhythm in mind, body and spirit integrated healing at its best. It is complementary, respecting and enhancing professional medicine.
The hardest thing about learning a style honoring Usui Reiki Ryoho is benching the thinking mind. In 1925 Usui Sensei saw that some students were having difficulty in feeling energy without something visual; he created three symbols for them to use as training wheels. Since then various teachers have created more than the original three symbols to help their students.
The easiest thing when learning a style honoring Usui Reiki Ryoho is entrusting your hands to Usui Reiki to be guided by Byosen (hands feeling inharmonic and harmonic vibrations). Once you know the differences between life force energy, ki energy, and universal energy, and inharmonic and harmonic vibrations, there is no need to use any symbols or hand positions.
Tools used in other healing modalities are not needed in Usui Reiki Ryoho; the Practitioner or Shihan simply becomes the tuning fork. Once your pathway has been opened and you learn Usui Sensei’s spiritual practice, it is just you, the knowledge in your heart, and that beautiful piece of universal energy we call Usui Reiki flowing through you. Simple yet profound.
