First immigrant woman’s conference

Over 200 immigrant women from Maine’s communities attended the 1st annual conference in Portland on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at University of Southern Maine’s Hannaford Hall. Empower Women photoThe  Inaugural Women’s Conference was created to help empower, educate & inspire emerging immigrant woman throughout Maine. A Trailblazer panel opened the conference chaired by immigrant women who have made a name for themselves in the community and continue to help foster other women. The event included multiple panels addressing workplace readiness and entrepreneurship, with key member of local organization which provide resources, services, and advocacy.

The conference was presented by the Intercultural Community Center with sponsorship by the University of Maine School of Law, Maine Immigrants’ Rights Coalition, USM Multicultural Center, Immigrants Legal Advocacy Project, Portland Adult Education, Lee International and Maine Women’s Lobby. More information about the conference and organization can be found at
